Dr. Sydney D. Richardson

Dean of the Martha H. Fleer Center for Adult Education at Salem College


Dr. Sydney D. Richardson serves as Dean of the Martha H. Fleer Center for Adult Education at Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. Before becoming dean, Dr. Richardson was an Assistant Professor of Education and Director of the Writing Center, with an affilated faculty position in Women and Gender Studies. An advocate for adult learners at four-year institutions, her research and practices focus on transformative education, ways in which mistreated women learners process their college experiences, and mentorship among women. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.A. in English and African American Literature from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Cultural Studies from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
