The Association for Nontraditional Students in Higher Education programs and services help support nontraditional students across the country--and we depend on the generosity of of supporters like you.

Thanks to our members and to supporters like you, we have been able to award over $100,000 in scholarships over the past 20 years. Scholarship winners like Tenera Armbrister-Carey are faced with many challenges when returning to college as adults. Many are attending college for the first time, work a job, are parents, care for elderly parents, and/or struggle financially. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities for traditional students, but when it comes to scholarships for adult learners, the selection is limited and they can be difficult to find.

Other Giving Options

We depend on the generous support of people in our community, members, and business partners to help us provide scholarships and resources to nontraditional students across the country.

In addition to gifts that support our overall mission and gifts in support of specific programs such as the ANTSHE Scholarship Fund, other ways to give include:

Memorial and Tribute Gifts – Make a gift in memory of someone who has passed who touched your life. Or show someone you care about them with a gift in their honor on their birthday, anniversary, graduation or just because.

Wills and Estate Gifts / Donor-Advised Funds – Include ANTSHE in your will or trust or by designating us as the beneficiary of your IRA or life insurance policy. These and other types of planned gifts may avoid probate and reduce inheritance taxes.

Workplace Giving – Consider starting an employee giving program or corporate campaign to benefit ANTSHE.

In-Kind Donations – We welcome donations of artwork, collectibles and other items of value for our event auctions and raffles, subject to approval.

Matching Gifts – If you work for a company that matches employee donations to charities, you can double or triple the amount of your gift. Please contact your company’s Human Resources department to find out if this type of program exists or how you could go about starting one.

Event Sponsorship – Our annual fundraising event - The ANTSHE Conference, held annually and hosted by colleges/universities across the country, provides funding to help support the scholarship fund and support the organization through fees associated with website maintenance, marketing promotions, and other fees.

For more information about any of the above ways to give, please contact Dr. Lee Viar at 301-991-2222 or email

Who We Are and What We Do

We look at the experiences of the nontraditional student and examine the issues that have an impact on their success as a student in higher education. Then, we collaborate with other leaders in higher education, academic leadership, faculty, other academic professionals, and nontraditional students themselves, building relationships and networking in order to provide real solutions for addressing adult learner issues and to build more effective adult learner programs and communities on and off campus.
