Barbara A. Mebane

Ball State University


A resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, Barbara A. Mebane is currently a doctoral student at Ball State University majoring in Adult and Community Education with cognates in Higher Education and Community College Leadership. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

During her tenure in secondary education (public and private sector), she served in diverse roles, including teacher, counselor, assistant admissions director, instructional coach, and International Baccalaureate coordinator. Along the way, she earned a Master of Education degree; a Masters in Adult and Community Education; a Gifted and Talented License, a Building Administrator’s License, and a Certificate in College and University Teaching.

She was a 2016 recipient of The Indianapolis Alliance of Black School Educators (IABSE) Scholarship Award. She presented Storytelling as a Way of Healing at Ball State’s 2017 Diversity Symposium. Additionally, she is an accepted speaker at the 35th I.S.E.B (International Society of Educational Biography) Conference in San Antonio in April of this year. Her topic is The Sisterhood Is Alive and Well. This is her final semester for doctoral course work. Her research interest is educating women and girls.
