Together we can make a difference

Dr. Gail Summerskill

Strayer University, Cheddar MBA & North Charlotte Campus

Formerly the Director of the Writing Center/Writing Across the Curriculum at the University of Kentucky and The Director of the Freshman through the Senior Year Experience Center at Johnson C Smith University, I am now teaching writing, communication, and entrepreneur media skills to undergraduate and graduate non-traditional students at Strayer University. Please consult my LinkedIn profile ( for additional details.

I research, blog, vlog, and video about writing rescue and learning-with-grit topics at the Traveling Writing Teacher ( and am passionate about teaching people of all ages and backgrounds to improve written, spoken, technological, and visual communication. How do I teach this: through knowledge, practice, grit, and support. I use my expertise, mentoring, technology, and advocacy to engage learners.

If you're not learning, I change our teacher/learner dynamic. I hope that you will attend my session, "Compassionately Communicating the OBVIOUS: 7 Steps to Help Non-Traditional Students Learn with Grit." Sharing and receiving best practices, innovation, ideas, and queries with colleagues is one of my joys.
