Charles Jackson is the Academic Specialist for Student Success Initiative in the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at Michigan State University. In his position, Charles oversees the Student Success Dashboard academic advising appointment system. In addition, Charles collaboratively works with the academic advising working groups on areas of assessment and metrics, advisor professional development and training, and tools and collaboration. Charles earned his bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Public Policy and master’s degree in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE).

Currently, Charles is a doctoral student within the College of Education Higher, Adult, Lifelong Education (HALE) program. Charles’ dissertation research centers around Black male adult learners, specifically how their intersecting identities of race, class, and socioeconomic status shapes their educational experiences with predominately White classroom spaces. Charles is a member of and SIG leader of the Minority and Human Rights group with the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE). Charles has also conducted field focus group interviews for a project that examined the academic experiences of African-American males in the K-12 system across the state of Michigan. I presented findings from the report during the conference symposium Dangers Seen, Unseen, and Unforeseen: The Experiences of Black Male Interviewing K-12 Black Males at the 2016 American Educational Research Association (AERA) meetings.
